How to Create a QR Code for Instagram

"Follow us on Instagram @yourbusiness" — you've seen this on every storefront, menu, and business card. The problem is, people have to open Instagram, tap search, type your handle, find the right account among duplicates, and hit follow. Most won't bother.

A QR code skips all of that. Scan → your profile opens → they tap Follow. Three seconds instead of thirty.

Get Your Instagram Profile Link

Your Instagram profile has a direct URL:

https://www.instagram.com/yourusername

Replace yourusername with your actual handle. You can also find this by opening your profile in a browser and copying the URL from the address bar.

For a specific post, reel, or story highlight, use that content's share link instead. But for most purposes, linking to the profile is best — it gives visitors the full picture of your account before they follow.

Create the QR Code

  1. Go to qree.app
  2. Paste your Instagram profile URL
  3. Customize — Instagram's gradient goes from #F58529 (orange) to #DD2A7B (pink) to #8134AF (purple) if you want to match their brand
  4. Download as PNG or SVG

Note: Instagram has its own "QR code" feature in the app (the Nametag replacement). But Instagram's native QR code only works when scanned inside the Instagram app's scanner. A standard QR code from qree.app works with any phone camera — much more accessible.

Where to Use It

Business Cards

The back of your business card is prime real estate for an Instagram QR. People who receive your card can scan and follow you immediately. For creative professionals — photographers, designers, stylists — your Instagram is your portfolio, so this QR is essentially a link to your work.

Storefronts and Windows

A QR code sticker on your shop window or entrance door. "Follow us for new arrivals and promotions" gives people a reason to scan. They'll see your latest posts every time they open Instagram, keeping your brand top of mind.

Product Packaging

Every product that leaves your store or ships to a customer is a marketing touchpoint. A QR code on the packaging links to your Instagram. Customers who love the product can follow you for more — new releases, behind-the-scenes, styling ideas.

Menus and Table Tents

Restaurants and cafes can add their Instagram QR to the menu or a table tent. Customers waiting for food often scroll their phones — give them a reason to check out your account and follow.

Events and Markets

At trade shows, pop-up markets, or festivals, display your Instagram QR prominently on your booth. Visitors who browse but don't buy can still follow you — converting foot traffic into followers who might buy later.

Email Signatures

Add a small QR code image to your email signature. Every email you send becomes an opportunity for the recipient to follow your Instagram.

Print Advertising

Magazine ads, flyers, posters — any print material benefits from an Instagram QR. Instead of hoping people remember your handle, give them a one-scan path to your profile.

Profile vs Post vs Linktree

Profile link — the default choice. Opens your full Instagram profile. Best for getting follows.

Specific post or reel — use when you want to drive traffic to a particular piece of content. A QR on a flyer promoting a new product can link to the reel showcasing that product.

Linktree or similar — if you want the QR to link to multiple platforms (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, website), use a link-in-bio service. The QR opens a page with buttons for each platform. Useful when you have a strong presence across multiple channels.

Static vs Dynamic

Static works fine if your Instagram handle is permanent (which it usually is).

Dynamic is useful if you want to track how many people scan the QR (compare storefront vs packaging vs business card performance), or if you want to change the destination later — for example, linking to a Linktree during a product launch, then back to your profile after.

Tips

Make your profile worth following. Before printing QR codes everywhere, make sure your Instagram profile looks good when people land on it. Clear bio, consistent visual style, recent posts. A QR code drives traffic — your profile converts it.

Add a reason to scan. "Follow for weekly outfit ideas" or "Follow for new menu updates" converts better than just "Follow us." Give people a reason.

Don't use Instagram's native QR. As mentioned, Instagram's built-in QR code only works with Instagram's own scanner, not the phone camera. A standard QR code is universally scannable.

Size and placement. On a business card: 2×2 cm minimum. On a storefront: 5×5 cm or larger. On packaging: wherever there's space, with a clear label.
