QR code stickers are the most versatile physical form factor — they stick to any surface, can be produced cheaply in bulk, and work everywhere from restaurant tables to car windows to product packaging.

Materials

Vinyl stickers. The most durable option. Waterproof, UV-resistant, and scratch-resistant. Ideal for outdoor use: car windows, storefront doors, equipment, and anything exposed to weather. Lifespan: 3-5 years outdoors.

Paper stickers. Cheapest option. Fine for indoor use where they won't get wet. Restaurant tables (if you laminate), office equipment, indoor signage. Lifespan: months to a year indoors.

Polyester/BOPP stickers. Middle ground — more durable than paper, cheaper than vinyl. Good for product packaging and indoor-outdoor use. Water-resistant but not fully waterproof.

Clear/transparent stickers. The sticker material is transparent, so only the QR code is visible. Great for glass surfaces, packaging where you want the product visible, and sleek aesthetic designs.

Removable vs permanent adhesive. Removable adhesive lets you reposition without residue — good for rental spaces, temporary displays, and testing placements. Permanent adhesive is stronger and essential for outdoor use.

Sizes

2×2 cm — minimum for close-range scanning. Business cards, small product labels.

3×3 cm — good for table tents, menus, small signs. The most common size.

5×5 cm — comfortable for counter displays, equipment, medium signage. Easy to scan from arm's length.

8×8 cm — large stickers for windows, doors, walls. Scannable from 1-2 meters.

10×10 cm+ — very visible. For storefronts, vehicles, and anywhere you need the QR to attract attention from a distance.

Where to Order

Online printing services. Sticker Mule, Vistaprint, Moo, Printful — upload your QR image (SVG or high-res PNG) and order custom stickers. Most offer minimum orders of 50-100 stickers.

Local print shops. For small batches or custom materials. They can advise on materials for your specific use case.

Home printing. For prototyping or small quantities, print on sticker paper with a home printer. Use a laser printer for water resistance, or an inkjet with lamination. Not suitable for outdoor use.

Where to Place QR Code Stickers

Restaurant tables. The classic placement. A small sticker on each table linking to the menu. Use vinyl or laminated paper to survive cleaning.

Car windows. Service businesses: a QR on the work van linking to your website, booking page, or Google reviews. Real estate: a QR on the car window at open houses.

Storefront windows. "Scan for our menu / hours / website." Works 24/7.

Product packaging. A sticker on the box or bag linking to instructions, reviews, or the product page.

Equipment. QR stickers on machines, appliances, or tools linking to the user manual, maintenance schedule, or support page.

Laptop lids. Freelancers and creators: a QR sticker on your laptop linking to your portfolio. Works in coworking spaces and coffee shops.

Phone cases. A QR sticker on the back of your phone case linking to your contact card. Networking without business cards.

Design Tips

Include a label. "Scan for menu" or just "Scan me" — even a tiny label helps. A QR sticker with no context gets lower scan rates.

Round vs square. Round stickers with a QR inside look modern and intentional. The QR must have enough quiet zone (white border) inside the circle to scan reliably.

Die-cut. Custom shapes (your logo outline, a speech bubble, a heart) make the sticker more interesting and brandable.

Batch print with different links. If each sticker should have a unique QR (different tables, different products), use bulk generation. See our bulk QR codes guide.
