QR Codes for Salons and Barbershops

Salons and barbershops run on appointments, reputation, and repeat clients. QR codes improve all three — faster booking, more reviews, and better client retention. Plus, your clients are already sitting in the chair with their phone for 30-60 minutes. That's a captive audience.

Here's how to use QR codes at every touchpoint in your salon.

Online Booking

The most valuable QR code in your salon. A code on the front door, the reception desk, the mirror at each station, and on your business card — all linking to your online booking page (Fresha, Booksy, Square Appointments, Calendly, or your own site).

The door placement catches walk-ins: "Chair available? Scan to book now." The mirror placement works during the appointment: "Loved your cut? Scan to book your next one before you leave." The business card version lets clients book after they've left.

Use a dynamic QR code. If you switch booking platforms, the physical QR codes stay the same — just update the redirect link.

Google Reviews

Reviews make or break salons. Most clients are happy to leave a review but don't because it requires too many steps. A QR code at the checkout desk or on a card handed with the receipt cuts the steps to one: scan → tap stars → done.

Place the QR where the client is paying. They're in a good mood (fresh haircut), their phone is in their hand (paying), and you've just delivered a service. The timing is perfect.

"Enjoying your new look? Leave us a quick review" with the QR code. Keep the ask simple and specific.

Portfolio and Lookbook

A QR code at each stylist's station linking to their Instagram or portfolio page. Clients sitting in the chair can browse that specific stylist's past work for inspiration. It's more effective than a conversation: "I want something like this" with a reference photo right there.

For the salon as a whole, a QR code at the reception area linking to a gallery of work — different styles, colors, techniques. New clients can browse while waiting and arrive at the chair with a clear idea of what they want.

WiFi

Salon appointments take 30-90 minutes. Clients will want WiFi. A QR code on the mirror or at the waiting area lets them connect without asking. See our WiFi QR Code guide for how to set this up.

Bonus: offering WiFi via QR feels modern and professional. It's a small touch that improves the experience.

Loyalty Programs

Repeat business is everything for salons. A simple QR-based loyalty program works:

At checkout: Client scans the loyalty QR code → it opens a page that logs their visit (Google Form, Airtable, or a dedicated loyalty tool). After every 10th visit, they get a discount or free add-on service.

On a physical card: Some salons combine paper stamp cards with a QR code. The QR links to the digital version so clients don't lose progress if they forget the card.

The key is making it effortless. One scan at checkout, nothing to remember or carry.

Aftercare Instructions

Clients often forget aftercare advice the moment they leave. A QR code on a small card given at checkout links to aftercare instructions specific to the service:

  • Color treatment: how to maintain the color, products to use, when to schedule the next appointment
  • Keratin treatment: when to wash, what to avoid
  • Haircut: styling tips for their specific cut
  • Barber: beard maintenance guide

This adds value, reduces follow-up questions, and positions your salon as professional and caring.

Product Sales

If your salon sells hair products, a QR code on or near the product display links to descriptions, how-to videos, and reviews. Clients can research while waiting and make an informed purchase.

For products used during the appointment, the stylist can say "I'm using this product on you — scan to see details and order" with a QR code on the product or the station mirror.

Social Media

A QR code at the selfie mirror (most salons have one near the exit) linking to your Instagram: "Love your new look? Tag us!" This combines the post-appointment glow with an easy path to sharing.

Place it where clients naturally take photos — the exit mirror, a branded photo wall, or the waiting area with good lighting.

Practical Tips

Mirror-friendly placement. In salons, the mirror is the main visual surface. A small QR sticker on the mirror corner doesn't obstruct the view but is always visible during the 30-60 minute appointment.

Waterproof printing. Salons are humid environments with water, dye, and product splashes. Use laminated or vinyl QR codes.

One action per QR. Don't make one QR code do everything. Separate QR codes for booking, reviews, and WiFi — each placed where the action is most natural.

Branded colors. Match the QR code colors to your salon's brand. Pink salon? Pink QR code. Minimalist barber? Black and white. It looks intentional.

Train your staff. Stylists should naturally mention the QR codes: "Want to book your next appointment? There's a QR on the mirror." A verbal prompt dramatically increases scan rates.
